HF Holidays supports a range of projects both in the UK and abroad, helping to protect our environment and improve access to the countryside. HF Holidays is very aware of the impact of tourism. Our policy is to use local transport, accommodation and activity providers to distribute economic benefit to the communities visited. Outside of the UK, HF Holidays is keen to support international projects which benefit people and communities.
Bringing people together through memorable holidays in the UK and around the world, is what we do. We recognise that action is needed to protect and preserve the destinations we visit. We want to lead the way in developing holidays that are truly sustainable.
Please view our policy for details and read about our environmental practices. Environmentally Responsible Tourism Policy and Practices
HF Holidays currently work with and donate to a number of organisations including The Air Ambulance, Countryside Management Association, John Muir Trust, The National Trust, Mountain Rescue Teams and supports the Fairtrade Foundation and BTCV.
As a responsible traveller you will already be aware of the many companies offering a carbon offsetting service for the flights that you take and we recognise that you can choose to offset without input from HF Holidays. As an organisation we have decided to look at all the ways we can reduce our carbon emissions as a business and also ways to make it easier for you to travel to your chosen holidays using alternative methods of transport to flights where this is possible.
In October 2008 we established a partnership with the ECA Group [Energy Cost Advisors Group] to monitor and investigate the energy used at our UK Country Houses.
At the end of 2009 ECA reported that our Country Houses reduced emissions in electricity by 20% and gas by 2%. This shows incredible steps towards reducing HF Holidays carbon footprint, which we are very proud of.
In 2010 we continued to monitor our emissions and made steps to improve our carbon footprint. You can read about these in the document at the top of this page: Environmental Practices.
Furthermore, we are considering greywater recycling at one of our Country Houses to reduce water consumption. More information about greywater recycling.
As part of HF Holidays’ ongoing commitment to the environment, we have been working with one of our catering suppliers ‘3663’, to recycle waste cooking oil at our Country Houses. The recycled oil is collected from the houses and converted into B30 Biofuel. The Biofuel is then used to help power the 3663 vehicles. Where oil recycling facilities are not available, alternative solutions are being sought.
Since March 2010, 13 of our Country Houses have collectively recycled 2,870 litres of waste cooking oil, which equates to a carbon saving of 5.84 tonnes in 2010.
Furthermore, in 2011 we achieved a saving of 6.93 tonnes. In total that’s an equivalent of 12.77 tonnes in two years. View our carbon saving certificate.
