The Piedmont region of Northern Italy is famed for its beautiful countryside and rich culinary heritage giving it all the right ingredients for a relaxing walking holiday. Our walks will explore the green and fertile Langhe Hills taking you through fields of vines and nut trees to attractive medieval villages.
Our base is a superb 4-star hotel in the picturesque village of Montelupo d'Albese, where you can enjoy all the stylish comforts of contemporary rural Italy. From this elevated position there are excellent views across the surrounding hills, perhaps even as far as the distant Alpine peaks of the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa.

On these holidays there is a choice of two guided walks for varying abilities each day.
ITINERARY
Day 1: arrival day |
|
Day 2: enjoy leisurely walking from Montelupo
through ancient vineyards and hazelnut groves, with
visits to charming isolated churches, traditional farms
and ancient springs.
Day 3: explore the medieval centre of Alba then
follow the River Tanaro to the beautiful
wine-producing villages of Barbaresco and Neive.
Day 4: travel across the Langhe Hills to follow the old
trade route above the Bormida Valley linking the
beautiful castle at Pruneto, the ancient village of
Bergolo, and the medieval town of Cortemilia.
Day 5: free day - options include a full-day excursion
to the celebrated city of Turin, a visit to the historic
town of Alba, or exploring Montelupo with the
opportunity to sample the renowned local wines.
Day 6: wander through the famous Barolo vineyards
to the medieval hill-top villages of La Morra, Barolo,
Monforte d’Alba, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga
d’Alba; a day of stunning views and fantastic wines.
Day 7: walk along part of the ‘Strada Romantica’, an
ancient trail that links Bossolasco (the village of
Roses) with Serravalle delle Langhe. Continue the
journey, through ancient woodland, to Montelupo.

Local transport to and from the walks
Local transport is not included in the cost of your
holiday. Please allow €70 (approx £48) per week
for local transport.

The easiest option is to join the HF Holidays' transfer (supplement £15 single). Please contact our Reservations Dept to book your place.
Alternatively it is possible by public transport as far as the nearest station at Alba. Turin Airport has its own railway station and trains run from here to the Turin's main railway station every 30 minutes - journey time 20 minutes, cost €3. Trains to and from the airport are run by the Turin transport authority and for this reason they do not show up on the trenitalia website. From central Turin follow the directions in the 'by train' section on the next page.
By Air to Genoa:

From Genoa Airport you would first need to take the number 100 bus to the central railway station. Buses run every 30 minutes and currently cost €3 per journey - see www.airport.genova.it. From central Genoa take the train to Alba (see the 'by train' section below).
By Train: The nearest station to Montelupo is at Alba, which is approximately 14km (9 miles) from the hotel. From Turin central station trains take around 1½ hours to reach Alba station, with one change at either Bra, Asti or Cavallermaggiore . If you are travelling from Genoa, trains take around 2¼ to 2½ hours with one change at Asti. From Alba station you will need a taxi to complete your journey to the hotel. Contact the hotel direct and they will arrange this for you.
