A fully guided barge & cycling tour along the River Loire in France. The tour begins in either Plagny or Rogny-les-Sept-Ecluses, and visits castles and vineyards. There is also the option of simply staying on board to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Detailed itinerary

Some sections of the route are quite hilly and some sections are on roads. There is an option to stay on board the boat and enjoy the views however if you wish.

Day 1: Transfer from Paris Gare du Nord
Transfer by coach to Plagny/Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses. You arrive early evening, and are introduced to your guide and crew before enjoying your first evening meal with your fellow guests.

Day 2: Plagny to La Chapelle-Montlinard
31 miles
Cruise over an aquaduct and through two locks before cycling to Aprémont to visit the 12th century castle and its fabulous gardens.

Day 3: La Chapelle- Montlinard to Ménétréol
34 miles
Your cycle ride begins with a trip to Charité-sur-Loire and a wonderful view of its Notre-Dame church. You then enter the region of the renowned Pouilly-Fumé wines which can be sampled at Ménétréol.

Day 4: Ménétréol to Beaulieu-sur-Loire
34 miles
After a visit to the historic town of Sancerre-sur-Loire you follow a picturesque route right across the Sancerre vineyards passing several wine villages. Your overnight stop is in Beaulieu-sur-Loire.

Day 5: Beaulieu-sur-Loire to Briare
27 miles
Cycle past the historic locks of Châtillon-sur-Loire and the magnificent aquaduct that will take you over the River Loire later on. Your overnight stop is in Briare.

Day 6: Briare to Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses
31 miles
There is time to explore Briare this morning before cycling to Pont Chevron castle. Continue via Ouzouer-sur-Trézée to the 16th century castle near Bléneau and the village of Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses.

Day 7: A circular route from Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses
34 miles
Cycle to the market in Châtillon-Coligny, and then on to the castle in La Bussière. Ride via Escrignelles to end the tour back in Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses.

Day 8: Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses to Paris
In the morning you may wish to go for a stroll around Châtillon-Coligny. Around 11:00 your guide and crew will say goodbye and you return by coach to Paris.

For this cycling and cruising tour your accommodation is aboard a barge with bunk bed and private facilities. We can arrange male or female share cabins, but single cabins are not available.

Transfer to Plagny/Rogny-les-Sept-Ecluses: 2-3hrs by coach (included). Regular metro services from Charles de Gaulle airport to Gare du Nord station (payable locally).

We do not recommend travelling by car ferry as there are no secure parking arrangements at the beginning or end of this tour.
