This excellent seven-night cycle tour along the River Danube
guarantees you a memorable holiday. Experience beautiful countryside
and mountains as you follow the river from Germany into Austria.
Cycle past wonderful monasteries, baroque architecture, romantic
villages, old towns and vineyards.

This classic tour takes you along the Danube on mainly flat
cycle paths. You will encounter some roads when coming
into towns to reach your evening accommodation. |
Day 1: Arrival in Passau
You can collect your bicycles and information packs before
exploring the beautiful town of Passau.
Day 2: Passau to Schlögen
26 miles
Cycle through the deep gorges that have been cut out of the
Bavarian woodland. You continue past castles and pretty villages to the
small town of Schlögen.
Day 3: Schlögen to Linz
22 miles by bicycle & 16 miles by train or ferry*
Today you cycle through the famous Donau bend the 'Schlinge'.
You continue along this delightful route through areas of
outstanding natural beauty to Aschach. You then cycle on to
Linz, from where you can take a city tour or a trip by cable
car to the Pöstlingberg, a baroque pilgrimage church
and a fairytale grotto.
*Ferry transfer on Thursdays,
rail transfer all other days.
Day 4: Linz to Perg
30 miles
You start with a short detour to St Florian Monastery and
the pilgrimage site where the Austrian composer and organist
Anton Bruckner is buried beneath his famous organ. The route
continues via Enns, the oldest town in Austria. You cross
the Danube again to Mauthausen, and stay overnight in Perg. The famous Bruckner organ festival is held
in September - and there are concerts throughout the summer.
Day 5: Perg to Maria Taferl
39 miles
Today you cycle through woodland and orchards towards Grein.
You approach it through the 'eye of the needle' a narrow stretch
of the valley once feared by sailors. The route takes you
past the Habsburg Castle, Persenbeug then onto Marbach, where
a transfer to your hotel in the Pilgrimage resort of Maria
Taferl is organised.
Day 6: Maria Taferl to Traismauer
35 miles by bicycle and 13 miles by boat
You go through Strudengau to Melk and can visit the famous
abbey; then by boat to Spitz and continue by bicycle through
the vineyards of the Wachau through the romantic town of
Dürnstein and on to Traismauer.
Day 7: Traismauer to Greifenstein
20 miles by bicycle and 11 miles by train to Vienna
Today you cycle via Mautern through a green valley (the vegetable
growing area for the whole of Austria) to Greifenstein. You
return your bicycles, collect your luggage and continue by
rail to your hotel in Vienna.
Day 8: End of tour after breakfast
Time to discover Vienna.

accommodation along the route. Your luggage is transported
to each overnight stay for you, so you can relax and enjoy
the cycling.
Accommodation is on a Bed & Breakfast or Half Board basis.
