Anybody can enjoy our holidays, although it helps if you do some preholiday preparation. For most people, around 25 miles per day during the tour is achievable, but 40 miles can be hard unless you cycle regularly. Some of our cycling holidays are less than 15 miles per day which gives you more time for sightseeing. Whatever your choice, we would advise you to spend some time on a bicycle before the start of your holiday to make sure everything is as enjoyable as possible.

Wearing comfortable clothes will make your cycling holiday more enjoyable. This includes padded shorts or leggings and a waterproof jacket and shoes which grip the pedals are also useful. We strongly advise guests to wear a helmet, especially on tours where you’re cycling on roads. Fluorescent clothing is also recommended for bad weather conditions.

Your bicycle will depend on your chosen destination and the terrain. On some tours, you may also be provided with accessories such as panniers, repair kit, map holder and cycling computer. Although you can hire children’s bicycle on some of our holidays, you may prefer to bring your own child's bicycle for peace of mind regarding fit and suitability for your child. If you decide to take your own bicycle, you will receive a reduction of £15 on a 7 night holiday and £10 on a 5 night holiday.

However, many hotels are able to offer a third bed in a twin or double room at a discount. Please call us for more details.

Depending on which Bike and Boat holiday you choose, you will have a twin-bedded or bunk-bedded cabin. The cabins are small but comfortable and generally have en-suite facilities. All cabins have a small storage space but we would suggest keeping luggage to a minimum.

We find that bed and breakfast accommodation provides guests with more flexibility and greater opportunities to try local cuisine. You will find that many of the hotels and guesthouses used offer set dinners at excellent prices. Alternatively, your hotelier will be able to advise on the best local restaurants.

On some tours it is essential to be able to repair a puncture and a repair kit will be provided for this. On other tours there are repair stations and centres where you can exchange your bicycle. If you have a mechanical problem which you can’t repair yourself, simply phone the local agent or hotel listed in your tour information pack and they will advise you on the best course of action.
