Trekking the world’s most famous mountain region

  • A choice of treks to suite all tastes
  • Explore timeless Kathmandu
  • Walk amongst the greatest Himalayan mountain

Walking amongst the great Himalayan mountains to some can be a daunting feeling, but one of great rewards. Our new Everest Trekking holiday can be enjoyed by anybody of a reasonable fitness, without having to climb mountains or sustained ascent. Perfect if you’re looking to experience the foothills of Mount Everest along with the history and culture of the magical kingdom of Nepal.

Our journey starts from Kathmandu where we spend two nights exploring the many intriguing sights that compose this mystical city. Situated due east are the Pashupatinath and Boudhanath Hindu temples, both built in pagoda style with gilded roofs, and a highlight of our stay here.

On day four, after a short internal flight, we begin our eight-night circular discovery through the foothills of Everest. Our trek will follow in the footsteps of previous legendary Everest conquerors, whilst surrounded by soaring mountain peaks that create breathtaking views. We pass charming small villages, filled with teahouses and colourful prayer flags, and witness at close quarters the majesty of the high Himalayas. Day five is full of interesting sights; not least of these will be our first view of Mount Everest as we walk higher up the trail. The bustling capital of the area, Namche Bazaar, is where we take our overnight stay and from here Mount Everest is again visable.

We spend the next few days in the company of the great white peaks of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kwangde and a host of other Himalayan giants, as we travel on to the villages of Tashinga, Tengboche and Mende. We’ll encounter a number of temples and monasteries en route as well as experience the life of the indigenous villagers. On each day there will be fine views of the commanding mountains and plenty of opportunities to photograph these majestic snow capped peaks in all their glory.

On day twelve, a return flight to Kathmandu is followed by an afternoon walk in the Shivapuri National Park where, weather permitting, we have excellent views of the surrounding high peaks, such as Manaslu and Ganesh Himal ranges. The following day we travel onward to the Narayani Safari Lodge, situated on the banks of the Rapti River in the Royal Chitwan National Park, and home to a range of wildlife including rhino, monkey, crocodile and exotic bird life.

Our final day is spent in the Kathmandu valley, walking through green rice terrace fields to the ancient Newari village Bungamati. We visit the Newari people who are regarded as the original inhabitants of this region.

Those of the more adventurous spirit may be tempted by the option to complete the classic trek to Everest Base Camp. This route is completely enveloped by some of the world's highest mountains, steeped in the history of supreme endeavour and overarching ambition. We follow paths trodden by the great expeditions and will take in the incomparable panorama from Kalapatthar at 18,450ft, before returning to Kathmandu safe in the knowledge that we have completed one of the world's greatest treks.

This holiday is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and a unique experience that will leave you with lasting memories you'll want to regale time and time again.
