The following is a suggested programme, but your HF Holidays' leader may adjust it at their discretion, according to the wishes of the group. There is clearly no obligation to join in any activity, and you should feel free to spend the time as you wish.
Day 1: arrival day - transfer to your hotel in the centre of Florence.
Day 2: trace the architectural riches of Florence on a walking tour of the historic centre, tracing the influence of the Medici families who ruled the city for many centuries. We’ll climb to the top of Giotto’s Campanile, see Michelangelo’s David in the Galleria dell’Academia, and visit the Vecchio Palace.
Day 3: take the train to Pisa and its world-famous leaning tower, set amidst a fantastic array of Romanesque architecture. We’ll also wander through the charming narrow streets of the old town.
Day 4: beat the crowds on a morning visit to Florence’s famous Uffizi gallery with its breathtaking art collection including works by Da Vinci, Raphael, Canaletto and Michelangelo. Later we’ll cross the Ponte Vecchio to the Pitti Palace, once a seat of Florentine power, and stroll around the Boboli Gardens and Belvedere Fortress.
Day 5: today we leave for Siena heading first to San Gimignano, with its breathtaking skyline of 13 towers. We’ll explore this impressive walled town, with its fine collection of 13th and 14th century houses and churches.
Day 6: our walking tour of Siena starts by ascending the 320ft Torre del Mangia bell tower for a bird’s eye view over the city. Much of this compact city is within easy walking distance of the main Il Campo square at its base and visit the Museo Civico and the Gothic Duomo.
Day 7: head south from Siena for a tour of the region’s charming hill towns including the forgotten Vatican town of Pienza with its remarkably preserved Medieval centre. We’ll continue to Montepulciano, the highest town in the area for views across the green and golden hills of southern Tuscany.
Day 8: departure day.
