Special Interest holidays in Britain
We are a long established operator that owns and directly manages 17 character Country House accommodation in Great Britain, contracts some outside of the UK and that runs its own programme of specialist interest and touring holidays throughout the year.
You can exclusively book any special interest holiday in Britain ranging from Art to Murder Mystery and from Music to Sightseeing tours for your group. If you prefer to travel a little further we can also offer painting or bridge holidays at some of our Europe locations.
Additionally as a thank you for each booking up to 24, guests will receive a voucher for £20 for each night booked. For groups over 25, we will send a voucher to the value of £30 for each night booked.
Special Interest holidays we can offer your group...
Example Dancing holiday - Beginners Ballroom
We might not turn you into champions overnight but we will teach you enough to impress your friends on any dance floor, whether it's in a crowded club or ornately furnished ballroom. It is romantic and graceful, not hard to learn and is even more fun than it looks on TV. We'll cover the Waltz, Quickstep, Social Foxtrot and go Latin with the Cha-Cha-Cha (always a favourite).
Example Rover Tour - Scottish Highlands
The Scottish Highlands with its vast mountains and huge expanses of wilderness make a dramatic location for your Rover holiday. Rides are longer than from some of our Houses in England but with the magnificent views which will be a feature throughout the week and the frequent stops to take a longer look, the Highlands unparalleled scenery demands it! We'll visit atmospheric Glen Coe with its mixture of overwhelming mountain scenery and tragic history, travel across Ardgour to the coast at Moidart and visit Glenfinnan Monument at the head of Loch Sheil, a place of inspiration for Bonnie Prince Charlie. We'll take a ferry trip to the isle of Mull to enjoy the gardens at Torosay Castle and travel to Inverary overlooking Loch Fyne.
Get Started with Bridge
If you can count to 13, you can play bridge. Actually, it's not quite that simple, but we can promise that we will make this introduction as basic as possible and will try to light the fuse that sets so many on their way to a lifetime's enjoyment (for some an obsession!) in this sport of the brain. The basics are indeed easy to grasp and you will soon be able to play the game with friends and enjoy a whole new social scene. Full morning seminars with a nice long rest for coffee, afternoons free to relax and sightsee, plus a further, late afternoon teaching session will help you make progress. Gentle, supervised competitions in the evenings give you a chance to practice new skills.
Example Painting holidays - Landscape Painting at its Best
There is an unparalleled source of scenic inspiration for all painters at all levels on these holidays. Every one of our hotels has been chosen first and foremost for its landscape values so there is a lifetime of picture-making within easy reach.
From Arundel in Sussex with its lovely curving avenue of lime trees and perfect castle; the tiny hamlet of Watendlath in the Lake District with its packhorse bridge, waterfall, tarn, farmsteads with mountains and moorland as a backdrop, or Goathland in the North York Moors, all 19th century houses, or the fishing village of Staithes on the coast, full of houses clinging to cliffs, stone steps, boats and crab pots. These examples are just illustrations as so much is unmissable.
All share the same combination of indoor technical input, with a review of the days work, demonstrations and workshops, and full day's on-site where you will receive individual guidance with your work. If you are a beginner, we show you the importance of observation and drawing, how to select and apply the paint, how to compose a picture successfully and how to finish your work for our mini exhibition if desired. If you are a more experienced painter we'll gear our response to meet your needs.
Our transport takes you out on location for three full days on a seven night holiday, with the first day usually spent in the grounds or very close to your hotel and the final day set aside to finish work and mount an exhibition. Our mini-coach is always to hand to take us to new sites, ferry us to nearby loos or retreat if the weather gets the better of us.
Example Singing holiday - Singing for Pleasure
Enjoy a wide selection of music from unison and part songs depending on group ability, folk song arrangements, Gilbert and Sullivan, and music from the shows. group singing for the pure pleasure of it, we sing in the mornings with shorter sessions late afternoon and evening. We'll work towards a final night's performance.
