Each tour is carefully planned with a balance between walking, travelling and sightseeing, along with good accommodation and food. All our itineraries have been tailor-made in association with carefully chosen local experts to take in the best an area has to offer. Example itinerary - Peru - Land of the Incas
Day 1: arrival in Lima (1 night).
Day 2: a flight to the famous White City of Arequipa
(1 night), renowned for its fine marble Plaza de
Armas and the colourful Santa Catalina Monastery.
Days 3-4: drive past snow-capped volcanoes to our
lodge beside the mighty Colca Canyon (2 nights)
where we walk to the nearby Inca ruins or relax in
the hot springs. Walking to a viewpoint over the
11,000ft deep canyon offers spectacular views and
the chance to see the majestic Andean condor.
Days 5-6: we drive to the lakeside town of Puno
(2 nights) with a walk to the fascinating pre-Inca
burial chambers at Silustani. Enjoy a private boat trip
on Lake Titicaca's sapphire waters to the floating
reed island of Uros and a walk on Taquile Island.
Days 7-8: a breathtaking journey by luxury train or
coach across the formidable Peruvian altiplano to
the ancient Inca capital of Cusco (2 nights). Walks
take us to numerous outlying Inca temples and
fortresses, hidden in the surrounding hills.
Day 9: explore the pre-Inca fortified city of Pikillacta
close to Cusco (1 night).
Days 10-11: walking through the Sacred Valley
(2 nights) we visit the Pisac ruins and spectacular
Moray ruins and saltpans.
Day 12: a memorable walk to the Sun Gate of Inti
Punku and the lost city of Machu Picchu. It is then a
short drive to Aguas Calientes (1 night).
Days 13-14: we return for a guided tour of Machu
Picchu at its best before most of the groups arrive.
Soak up the incredible atmosphere, or the superb
aerial views from Huayna Picchu, before returning to
relax and enjoy the markets, churches and ancient
ruins of Cusco (2 nights).
Day 15: a morning flight back to Lima allows time to
explore the city, before the evening flight home.
Day 16: arrive UK.
INCA TRAIL OPTION
Days 9-12: our first day is spent trekking
along the Inca Trail (3 nights) to the first
camp near
the Llactapata ruins. We follow the remarkably
well-preserved Inca pathway through the rich cloud
forests of the Cusichaca Valley before the third and
possibly most strenuous day of the trek, crossing two
high Andean passes (13,750ft and 12,950ft) amongst
awe-inspiring scenery.
