Highlights of the North Wales Path
Often overshadowed by the mighty mountains of Snowdonia,
the North Wales coast has many scenic delights to be
enjoyed. Using paths along the foreshore, and on the elevated
slopes above, this is a richly varied walk with superb sea

ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival day
Day 2: Llanddulas to Deganwy
Distance: 18km (11 miles), 395m (1,300ft) of ascent
From Llanddulas we walk initially by the sea, then climb inland through delightful woodland to an upland track leading to the quiet village of Llysfaen. Here we shall have distant views of both the Clwydian Hills and the mountains of Snowdonia. We then drop down, via the newly-restored Fairy Glen, to the promenade at Old Colwyn. From here we take the coach to the pierhead in Llandudno. After lunch in the Happy valley, we climb up onto the Great Orme to explore its rare flora, fauna and geology, with fine views over Anglesey and the Conwy estuary, descending via the Haulfre Gardens to the beach path on Llandudno's west shore.
Day 3: Via Conwy Mountain to Abergwyngregyn
Distance: 18½km (11½ miles), 500m (1,650ft) of ascent
We walk from the House at 9.30 via Conwy Mountain, Sychnant Pass and the shoulder of Maen Esgob, with fine views seawards and inland up the Conwy valley. After lunch near the Druidic stone circle in the hills above Penmaenmawr, we descend by good tracks and paths to the promenade at Llanfairfechan, with its pavilion cafe. Finally we walk along the sea-edge, through the Lafan Sands bird reserve, to Abergwyngregyn.
Day 4: Bont Newydd to Bangor
Distance: 18km (11 miles), 395m (1,300ft) of ascent
From Bont Newydd we walk to the head of the Aber valley to view the high waterfalls, then ascend by a wide, upland track onto the lower slopes of Moel Wnion, with fine views over Anglesey and the Menai Straits. After lunch the route leads us into the lower Ogwen valley, with views across to the high peaks of Snowdonia. We drop down following the route of an old slate tramway to Port Penrhyn, and from there walk into Bangor, with a chance for souvenir shopping, a cup of tea, or a visit to the cathedral.
