Choosing the level of your walks

Our easy grading system shows whether a region offer gentle strolls or more challenging routes to help you choose the right holiday for you. Difficulty is measured on many factors such as distance, ascent/descent, terrain, weather and more. There's no magic formula, but from our experience we grade our walks 1 to 5 (where 1 is easy and 5 hard). Our challenger holidays require a high level of fitness and stamina.

Local area

The Lakes and Tegernsee

Tegernsee is a spa town in the Bavarian pre-Alps, across Lake Tegernsee from our hotel in Bad Weissee. A major feature of Tegernsee town is the Benedictine Abbey built in the 6th Century. Cruises and boat rides also run on the lake from Tegernsee. With both Tegernsee and Bad Weissee being spa towns, there is plenty of opportunity to pamper yourself and enjoy swimming pools. For a different way to explore the Bavarian Alps, cycle hire is available.

Munich

The capital city of Bavaria, Munich is the centre of Bavarian culture and the economic driving force behind its wealth. Cycle hire is a big option in Munich, in order to get round many of the sights, which include the Hofbräuhaus, the Food Market, the Royal Residence and the Opera House. There is a multitude of museums, shops and cafes in the city to explore, and the city’s unique atmosphere is a great experience. A local bus runs to Munich from Bad Weissee on a regular basis.

Bad Tölz

This chocolate-box pretty spa town has an old quarter beautifully located near the River Isar and offers a quiet and relaxed day out. Steeped in history, this medieval town was originally built with wood, until it burnt down in the 13th Century and was then rebuilt with stone. The town also has an interesting history from World War II, when and SS officer cadet school was located in the town. Originally a market town, today Bad Tölz is a spa town, with local iodine-rich springs, which are believed to have healing properties. Visit Bad Tölz by bus from Bad Weissee.

Did you know?

On the north side of Gmund is a large paper-mill which specialises in producing high quality paper. Their paper is used to produce the Euro banknotes, so all visitors to Tegernsee arrive with a souvenir of the area already in their pockets.
