This holiday follows mostly flat terrain along quiet roads and cycle paths.
Day 1:
Board your barge at 13:00 in Amsterdam and then sail to the village of Oude Wetering. In the evening take a short introductory ride (6 miles).
Day 2:
Cycle through Dutch meadowlands to the town of Gouda, known for its cheese and also home to Holland’s largest candle factory (22 miles).
Day 3:
Cruise to the windmills at Kinderdijk before heading by bike to the Biesbosch National Park via the old Dutch town of Dordrecht. We then rejoin the barge and continue to the beautiful walled town of Willemstad (25 miles).
Day 4:
Sail through the beautiful waterways of Zeeland to the lively city of Antwerp in Belgium. On arrival, you will have plenty of time to explore this interesting and cultural port on foot.
Day 5:
Leave Antwerp and cycle through pretty Flemish countryside along the River Schelde. Tonight you will stay in the provincial town of Dendermonde (31 miles).
Day 6:
Cycle to the old town of Ghent which is steeped in history. Explore the cobbled streets and meandering canals as your guide takes you on this fascinating city tour (19 miles).
Day 7:
Travel by train to the beautiful city of Bruges and explore the so-called ‘Venice of the North’. In the afternoon, return to Ghent by train.
Day 8:
Return to Amsterdam airport by bus.
Day 1:
Meet your tour guide at Amsterdam Schiphol airport and transfer by bus to Ghent. Enjoy an introductory walk of Ghent.
Day 2:
Travel by train to the beautiful city of Bruges and enjoy some free time to discover the so-called ‘Venice of the North’. In the afternoon, travel by train to Dendermonde where you will meet the barge and take a short introductory ride (9 miles).
Day 3:
Cycle through picturesque Flemish countryside along the River Schelde to the lively city of Antwerp. On arrival, enjoy a short city walk with your guide with the opportunity to spend the rest of the evening exploring the city independently (31 miles).
Day 4:
There will be more opportunities to explore Antwerp this morning before spending the afternoon sailing over the Belgian- Dutch border to the beautiful walled town of Willemstad.
Day 5:
Cruise to the edge of the Biesbosch National Park from where you will cycle to the windmills at Kinderdijk and then on to the town of Gouda, known for its cheese. In the evening, you may wish to join in a short city walk (25 miles).
Day 6:
Cycle through the Dutch meadows to the village of Oude Wetering (25 miles).
Day 7:
Follow the course of the river Amstel by bicycle into Amsterdam where your barge will be docked. Explore Holland’s capital in the afternoon and in the evening enjoy your last city walk (19 miles).
Day 8:
Departure day.
Note: Departures between 10 April and 1 May include a visit to the Keukenhof gardens on day 2 and a horse drawn carriage ride in Bruges.
You will be provided with a 7-gear touring bicycle equipped with a bike bag. The guide will help in the event of a puncture.
