Arts and Crafts in Cumbria

Holiday reference: CNHHQ

Print this page

Cumbria was a favourite haunt of William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones who, together with George Howard of Brampton, were integral figures in the Arts and Crafts Movement. Visits to private homes, not normally open to the public, will help us seek out the Architecture, magnificent textiles, wallpaper, furniture and stained glass from this movement.  This holiday is a natural follow-on to our 'William Morris and Burne-Jones' holiday.

Holiday Highlights:

  • Visits and tours of private homes including Naworth Castle, near Carlisle
  • Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts house designed by H Bailey Scott
  • Brantwood, home of John Ruskin, on the shores of Coniston Water
  • Heritage sites of 19th century linen, lace and embroidery industries

What’s included:

  • Five full-day coach excursions with all admissions to places of interest included
  • A knowledgeable leader accompanies the tour
  • Comfortable en-suite bedrooms at our 4-star Country House
  • Full Board accommodation with all meals included
