Passport

A full passport is required and must be valid for at least six months from date of entry.

Visas

No visa is required by British passport holders for stays of up to six months. 28 days entry is granted on arrival. At the time of writing, citizens of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and EC member states do not need a visa to enter Barbados, but please check for up to date details with your nearest Barbados embassy or consulate.

Health advice

Before booking, you should check with your doctor to see if any health precautions are needed. The following websites provide a wealth of information on travelling and health: www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk www.traveldoctor.co.uk

Visitors must pay for all medical services which can be very expensive. Adequate health insurance is therefore essential.

Dengue Fever is found in Barbados so precaution should be taken against mosquitoes throughout the day by using insect repellent and wearing suitable clothing to cover bare skin. Water is clean and safe to drink.

Climate

                                         Sugar Cane Club climate chart

The island has a delightful climate with mild subtropical weather that varies little throughout the year. The lowest recorded temperature on Barbados is 15ºC. During the winter the evenings can be cool. Rain, which usually consists of short showers, is most likely to occur from July through to November. Most of the walks take place either in the early morning or in the afternoon - the period between 11am and 2pm tends to be the hottest part of the day making walking less comfortable.

Money

The unit of currency is the Barbados Dollar (BD$). You should take US Dollars either as travellers cheques or bank notes to exchange. It is a good idea to have a supply of small denomination dollar notes for unexpected tips etc. You should ensure that you have access to emergency funds, probably by means of a credit card. For spending money, you will only need to allow for snacks, drinks and souvenirs.

Tipping

Tipping is not compulsory, but is a means of recognising good service in most countries. Previously we have included tipping in the price of our holidays, but guest feedback has shown that guests would prefer this to be at their own discretion – to give more, or less, as a reflection of the service.

As guidance, we would recommend you allow £50 per person for tips on this holiday to cover local staff and services.
