Guided City Break to Bruges and Ghent

Holiday reference: BULCL

Print guided holiday itinerary information

Each day our experienced leader will lead you on a sightseeing walk of Bruges, exploring the different areas of the city. One day will also be spent in neighbouring Ghent, easily reached by train (not included on the Christmas departure). You should expect to spend most of the day sightseeing by foot.

Highlights of the sightseeing programme include:

Bruges’ medieval centre

UNSECO-heritage listed, the attractive centre contains architecture spanning Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance periods. Exploring the enticing cobbled streets, you’ll come across the Market Square and Burg Square, and the Basilica of the Holy Blood.

Boat trip

Bruges is made for a boat trip with its network of canals. From here you will glimpse a different view of the city as you pass picturesque bridges and quaint houses.

Damme

Located outside of Bruges, Damme used to be the port for Bruges during the 13th century and today you can visit the historic village centre here.

Ghent

This lively, university city is often overlooked but has a wealth of historical buildings, museums and St Bavo’s Cathedral, home of a major work by Rubens and altarpiece by Jan van Eyck.

Admission Fees

Admission fees are not included in the cost of the holiday. As a general guide, you should allow around €20, although reductions on admission costs are often available for students and senior citizens.

Local Transport

On this City Break the majority of the sightseeing will be by foot due to the compact size of Bruges’ and Ghent’s city centres. The return train journey from Bruges to Ghent is included in the holiday price.  Your leader will provide further information on arrival in Bruges.

In the Evenings

This holiday is sold on a bed and breakfast basis. However, your leader will make arrangements at local restaurants should members of the group wish to eat together. You will find that most guests enjoy dining together but the choice is yours. If you do choose to dine independently, your leader will be happy to offer suggestions and advice.
