52 miles. 9 - 13 miles and up to 1,300 feet of ascent in a day.
Day 1: Arrival day
Day 2: Saltburn to Staithes - The week’s walking will commence at the attractive seaside town of Saltburn by the Sea. We can look forward to glorious seascapes and awesome sights of high cliffs pounded by relentless seas. We join the cliff path above Old Saltburn and follow it through the village of Skinningrove and over Hummersea Cliff and Boulby Cliff (at 666 feet the highest cliff on the east coast of England). We now descend to the pretty fishing village of Staithes where we may take refreshment before our coach journey back to Whitby. Distance: 9 miles with 1,150 feet of ascent
Day 3: Staithes to Whitby - Today we return to Staithes and continue along the cliffs to Runswick Bay where we take to the sands before ascending steeply onto the cliff path again. On reaching Kettleness we shall take a short break before following the cliff path to Sandsend, the last mile of which is along the old Middlesbrough–Scarborough railway line, passing some old alum workings along the way. From here we walk back to Whitby and Larpool Hall. Distance: 13 miles with 900 feet of ascent
Day 4: Whitby to Ravenscar - After walking into Whitby, we make our way up the famous 199 steps to rejoin the Cleveland Way at Whitby Abbey. We then continue along the cliff path to Robin Hood’s Bay where we have lunch and explore this famous old village. After lunch we continue on our way along the coast to Ravenscar where our coach will be waiting to take us back to Whitby. Distance: 11 miles with 1,300 feet of ascent
Day 5: This is a day without any walks programmed, giving you the opportunity to explore the local area independently, or to use the Country House facilities.
Day 6: Ravenscar to Scarborough - Today we return to Ravenscar, noted for: a Roman signal station; the Lyke Wake Walk; and an early example of speculative building which went wrong! Our route continues along the coast to Hayburn Wyke, Cloughton Wyke, Scalby Mills and on to the Sands Complex on Scarborough’s North Bay Promenade. The coach will be waiting there to take us back to Larpool Hall. Distance: 10 miles with 650 feet of ascent
Day 7: Scarborough to Filey - We walk around Castle Rock and along Scarborough’s South Bay Promenade with all the usual seaside attractions. On reaching the South Cliffs Promenade we will pause and enjoy the Italian Gardens before rejoining the Cleveland Way path, which passes the site of the old Holbeck Hall Hotel that slid gracefully into the sea in 1993. Our route continues to Cornelian Bay and along Frank Cliff to arrive at Cayton Bay for lunch. If the tide is right we shall be able to walk along the sands before rejoining the cliff path. Nearly at journey’s end, we continue along the coast path to Filey Brigg where we can look at the stone erected to show the start/finish of the Cleveland Way and the Wolds Way. We then have a fine walk over Pampletine Cliffs into Filey where there will be time for a drink before our coach leaves for Whitby. Distance: 9 miles with 550 feet of ascent
