Day 1: Arrival Day
Day 2: Helmsley to Sutton Bank - Leaving Whitby, we travel to Helmsley Place where we start our walk along the Cleveland Way. Our first objective is Rievaulx Bridge; the famous abbey is half a mile away, unfortunately there is no time for us to pay a visit. We continue through Nettle Dale to Cold Kirby where we join the Cote Moor Road to the Hambleton Inn. We follow Casten Dyke to the escarpment above Sutton Bank where there is an optional detour to Roulston Scar to view the White Horse of Kilburn. Anyone not wishing to walk to the White Horse may visit the National Park Information Centre. Distance: 8¼ miles with 1,000 feet of ascent; 10¾ miles including the White Horse
Day 3: Sutton Bank to Osmotherley - From Sutton Bank we head north along the escarpment via Whitestone Cliff and above Gormire Lake. We continue to Cleave Dyke and Sneck Yate Bank Top where we walk to High Paradise Farm and continue north to Whitestones and Hambleton End. We then drop down to Jenny Brewster Moor and to the reservoir in pretty Oak Dale. Afterwards we follow the Cleveland Way past White House and climb to Osmotherley village, the start of the Lyke Wake Walk long distance footpath. Distance: 11¾ miles with 600 feet of ascent
Day 4: Osmotherley to Clay Bank - The coach will return us to Osmotherley to continue our Cleveland Way walk. We walk to and ascend Beacon Hill where we join the Coast to Coast long distance footpath. Continuing, we go through Coalmire Woods to Huthwaite Green and then ascend Knolls End, Round Hill, Gold Hill, Carlton Moor (Glider Station), Cringle End, Kirby Bank, Raven’s Scar and Hasty Bank. We arrive at Clay Bank where our coach will be waiting to return us to Whitby. This is a fairly strenuous day, but very worthwhile, and if the weather is kind to us, the views will be ample reward for our efforts. Distance: 11 miles with 2,200 feet of ascent
Day 5: This is a day without any walks programmed, giving you the opportunity to explore the local area independently, or to use the Country House facilities.
Day 6: Clay Bank to Kildale - Arriving back at Clay Bank, we ascend Carr Ridge to Urra Moor and at Round Hill we reach the highest point in the Cleveland Hills. We continue on to Bloworth Crossing, where we say goodbye to the Lyke Wake Walk. When we arrive at Greenhow Bank, with fine views over Eller Beck, we shall cross Battersby Moor and descending into Kildale. Distance: 9½ miles with 700 feet of ascent
Day 7: Kildale to Saltburn - We return to Kildale village and continue our walk over Coate Moor to visit Captain Cook’s Monument. Dropping down to Gribdale Gate we climb again on to Ayton Bank and Black Bank. A little further on, the energetic amongst us can ascend Roseberry Topping with magnificent views in all directions. We continue east over Hutton Moor to Highcliff Nab, eventually descending to Slapewath Bridge. We now take the final stretch of our walk to the attractive seaside town of Saltburn. Distance: 13½ miles with 1,550 feet of ascent; 14½ miles with 2,050 feet of ascent with Roseberry Topping
