This holiday mainly follows cycle paths and quiet roads with some slightly undulating sections.
Day 1: Arrival in Heidelberg, a city steeped in history and home to a world-famous castle and Germany’s oldest university.
Day 2: Follow the famous Mountain Road through Germany’s Riviera where you will see almonds, figs and peaches growing. Stop at the market square in Heppenheim with its timber framed houses before continuing on to Zwingenberg or Bensheim (30 or 33 miles).
Day 3: Cross the Rhine by ferry and cycle to the Palatine vineyards. Pass through picturesque wine-growing villages, ending the day in Bodenheim or Mainz (36 or 39 miles).
Day 4: Follow the Rhine to the beautiful village of Eltville, known for its wine and its roses. Pass the Eberbach monastery to the famous wine town of Rüdesheim, Spend the night in Rüdesheim-Assmannhausen or in Bingen, just across the river (24 miles).
Day 5: Cycle through the romantic middle Rhine valley with its vineyards, Reichenstein Castle and the old wine village of Bacharach. End the day in the attractive town of Boppard (25 miles).
Day 6: Continue along the Rhine past Marksburg Castle to Koblenz where the Rhine and the Mosel rivers meet. For impressive views over the surrounding area, take the aerial ropeway up to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress (16 miles).
Day 7:Departure day.
You will be provided with 21 or 24-gear bicycles and a pannier bag. You will be equipped with a basic repair kit. On arrival at your first hotel you will receive an information pack containing your route directions and maps. Your luggage will be transferred from hotel to hotel on this cycling holiday.
