Select one of our Waterways holidays to discover Britain’s canal heritage. Visits will be made each day, which will involve up to five miles walking each day. In the evenings there will be talks on related topics such as horse power, how the canal people lived and what they wore.

This holiday, based in Brecon, visits the two most important canals in mid and south Wales where the industrial history and aspects of canal construction and canal life are brought alive through towpath walks, which will also allow the fascinating canalside natural history to be experienced and enjoyed.

Holiday highlights:

• Monmouth and Brecon canal where we will find the remains of the associated tramways
• Montgomery canal between Aberbechan and Welshpool will provide an insight into modern canal renovation and restoration
• Cardiff Bay barrage and the locks at Penarth where we will take a boat or road-train trip across the bay to enjoy the many pleasures of the new and much acclaimed Cardiff Bay development
• Llangynidr locks – a picturesque area with five locks in the heart of the Brecon Beacons
