Guided Walking at Selva

Holiday reference: SELCL

Print local area information

Selva is situated at an altitude of 1,560m at the head of the Val Gardena. Until the 1970s it was a very small village, but since then it has developed into an extensive winter and summer resort.

Shops & Facilities

Although Selva is quite modest in size, you will find a good selection of shops including two small supermarkets, a bakery, chemist and local craft shops.

Mini-golf, pitch and putt, squash and tennis courts, nine-pin bowling, ice skating and cycle hire are all available in Selva.

Entertainment

There is a programme of summer events in the village, and most weeks in high season there is a good selection of concerts, slide shows and folklore events.

Transport

Regular buses (every half hour in high season) connect Selva with the other valley villages of Ortisei and St Cristina, with most continuing to either Bressanone or the city of Bolzano. In the other direction there are a handful of buses that head over the passes at the head of the valley towards Corvara.

Free Day options

There is a wealth of local walks in the Gardena Valley. Your Leaders will be happy to recommend options if you would like to walk independently.

Ortisei is the largest village in the Gardena Valley and is easily reached by bus. Here you could wander around the historic centre and perhaps enjoy lunch in one of the pavement cafés.

You may like to take the bus to the historic city of Bolzano. The main attraction here is the fascinating ‘Ice Man’ museum which contains the preserved body of a prehistoric man and his artefacts that were found high on an alpine glacier.

A Coach tour of the Dolomites is another popular option with our guests. The tour is organised by the local tourist office – you’ll need to book your place on the first few days of the holiday. The coach will take you through the dramatic scenery to the east of Selva, allowing you to view the Marmolada Massif at close quarters.
