If you enjoy walking independently, Shropshire has walks for all abilities, from short strolls to more challenging longer routes. You'll find a selection of maps, guidebooks and bus timetables at the Longmynd for our guests to borrow.

A circular walk from Church Stretton omto the lower slopes of Caer Caradoc on the far side of the valley.
Distance: 10¼km (6½ miles), Ascent: 225m (740ft), Start & Finish: The Longmynd
Walk to the summit of Caer Caradoc, crowned with an fine Iron Age hill-fort, and extensive views over the Shropshire Hills.
Distance: 14km (9 miles), Ascent: 410m (1,345ft), Start & Finish: The Longmynd
A circular walk onto the Long Mynd, returning via the picturesque Carding Mill Valley.
Distance: 13¼km (7 miles), Ascent: 385m (1,265ft), Start & Finish: The Longmynd
Drive to the small historic town of Bishops Castle for this circular walk onto the hills west of the town.
Distance: 14km (9 miles), Ascent: 310m (1,020ft), Start & Finish: Bishops Castle

Shropshire Country Council publish an excellent free leaflet of ‘Church Stretton Cycle Rides’ – pick up a copy from the tourist information centre. This describes four different rides, using quiet lanes and bridleways to the south, north and west of the town. Further free leaflet is also available with routes centred on Shrewsbury or the market town of Ludlow.
