Freedom Breaks offer a flexible way to enjoy some of Britain's most scenic areas.
From our base a short distance from the shores of Coniston Water you can explore the Yewdale Valley with its many attractive farms once owned by Beatrix Potter. The Steam Yacht Gondola, or launches with solar electric power, provide relaxing cruises on Coniston Water, and the village with cafes, pubs and the recently renovated Ruskin Museum, offers a relaxing break.
Highlights of your stay could include:
- Excellent walks on the doorstep – perhaps to picturesque Tarn Hows or the nearby peaks of Wetherlam and the Old Man of Coniston
- Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage, where William Wordsworth lived, and nearby Rydal Water and Grasmere
- Windermere Lake Cruises with a range of trips to enjoy the magnificent views of the mountain scenery. Combine a cruise with a steam train trip at Haverthwaite
- Brantwood, home of John Ruskin on the eastern shore of Coniston Water. The estate has 250 acres of woodland gardens, lakeshore meadows and moorland hilltop
- The Beatrix Potter Gallery with an exhibition of the author’s original illustrations offers something for both adults and children
- Grizedale Forest with forest walks, mountain bike trails and orienteering courses, and the brand new ‘Go Ape’ high wire adventure course
