Whitby is a bustling harbour town and a popular tourist destination. Many visitors are drawn to the iconic abbey ruins, with their Dracula connections, above the town

From Larpool Hall it is a 1½ miles downhill walk, or a short drive to the town centre. 

The town has a full range of facilities including shops, banks, pubs and cafés. 

Whitby is also an excellent gateway to the North York Moors National Park. The rolling heather-clad moors and the rugged North Sea cost are two contrasting landscapes close at hand.

Whitby               

Whitby harbour is always bustling with activity. If you don’t mind the queue, the Magpie café on the waterfront is said to serve England’s best fish and chips!

Whitby Abbey               

The iconic ruined abbey commands a wonderful position above the harbour and can be reached by climbing the famous 199 steps.

Scarborough    

Scarborough is a quintessential Victorian seaside resort with plenty of attractions for both young and old.

Cycle Trail

The trackbed of the old Scarborough to Whitby railway now forms an excellent cycle trail which runs adjacent to Larpool Hall. You may enjoy a ride to quaint Robin Hood’s Bay or Ravenscar. Bikes can be hired from the old railway station at Hawsker.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway               

The 18-mile steam railway across the moors from Goathland to Pickering is one of Britain’s best preserved railways. In the summer some trains run to the centre of Whitby.

Goathland       

Break your ride on the steam railway at Goathland Station (Hogsmead station in the Harry Potter films). Goathland is famous as the setting for the TV drama series ‘Heartbeat’.

Staithes            

The pretty fishing village of Staithes is a pleasant spot to visit if you haven’t already done so on the walks.

York

One of Britain’s most attractive historic cities, York is about a 1 hour drive from Larpool Hall. Attractions include the city walls, Minster, National Railway Museum, and Yorvik Viking Centre.
