Day 1: Arrival day.
Your room will be available from 2.30pm onwards. Please join us for tea between 4pm and 5pm to meet the leader and your fellow guests.
Before dinner there will be a brief introduction to the holiday programme.
Day 2: Travel through the South Downs to the Jane Austen House Museum in Chawton and take a gentle stroll around this lovely village before visiting Alton, the nearby town where Jane and Cassandra enjoyed shopping. In the afternoon we will pause at the village of Steventon, Jane’s early home, before visiting The Vyne, one of the houses where she enjoyed dancing, which is now administered by the National Trust.
Day 3: Today we journey to Brighton, the summer haunt of the Prince Regent, to whom Emma was dedicated. We shall visit Brighton Pavilion and promenade round the Regency squares and parks where Lydia in Pride & Prejudice eloped with the handsome idler Mr Wickham.
Day 4: Jane Austen is buried in Winchester. Today we will visit Winchester Cathedral to view the simple plaque that marks her burial and the glorious window later dedicated to her. We shall also tour the 13th century foundation of Winchester College that her nephews attended.
Day 5: Depart after breakfast.
