The magnificent peaks and valleys of the Lake District provide a picturesque backdrop to our Garden Tour. Benefiting from the warm, wet blanket of the Gulf Stream, Cumbria displays spectacular and varied gardens, filled to bursting with unusual native and non-native plants and trees. Cumbria has a long history of producing interesting gardens laid out by everyone from famous garden designers such as Thos. Mawson and Guillaume Beaumont, and literary greats, Wordsworth and Ruskin, to ordinary people, like the volunteers at Holehird. During the week we will sample a great variety of gardens, from stately homes to intimate, compact gardens. We hope you will enjoy the contrasts and be inspired by what you see.

Holiday highlights:

• A chance to meet the experts of the gardens we visit. Where possible the head gardener will give us an introductory talk about the garden and a tour, giving us a chance to talk to the experts involved in all the gardens
• The formal and woodland gardens of Holker Hall
• The Topiary Garden at Levens Hall
• The Lakeland Horticultural Society garden at Holehird, voted one of the UK’s favourite gardens
