This holiday follows flat cycle paths along the Danube with some roads when entering towns and villages.
Day 1: Arrival in Linz. Check into your first night's accommodation and spend the rest of the day at your own leisure. If you are travelling with children the Grottenbahn is well worth a visit.
Day 2: After a delicious breakfast, cycle towards Mitterkirchen and view the Celt exhibition uncovering the lives of the inhabitants from the Hallstatt period, dating back almost 2,700 years ago (27 miles).
Day 3: Cycle through the picturesque town of Grein and visit Austria’s oldest theatre. Fancy an ice cream? The selection of ice cream flavours at the Schörgi’s ice-pavillion is a real treat. Continue to the town of Persenbeug (27 miles).
Day 4: Cycle via Pöchlarn and pass through the world famous Danube Valley. Admire the magnificent Benedictine Monastery of Melk before continuing to the magnificent vineyards of Spitz (31 miles).
Day 5: On your free day why not enjoy a tour of the numerous wine cellars or, for kids, enjoy a splash in the pool.
Day 6: Gentle cycling past the vineyards that run alongside the shoreline before taking the ferry to Krems. From the ferrry you will be able to see prominent landmarks such as the towns of Weissemkirchen and Durnstein where King Richard the Lionheart was held captive by Duke Leopald V (25 miles).
Day 7: Spend your last day cycling through the Tulln Valley to the Danube metropolis of Vienna. Here you can soak up the rich cultural and historical surroundings and maybe even pay a visit to Mozart's house (22 miles).
Day 8: Departure day.
