Easier Walks
Harder Walks
On good paths and tracks sometimes over rougher terrain.
Day 1: Arrival day
For those arriving on the Mytilene flights, the onward journey to Mólyvos is approximately a 90 minute coach journey. On the first evening your leaders will explain more about the walks and there will be time to meet with your fellow guests.
Day 2: In the steps of St Alexandros
Our introductory walks give us views of many of the places we will visit during a week in Lesvos. Starting in the hilltop village of Lafionas we take a track around Roudi Hill where we can visit the 4th century Monastery of St Alexandros. We walk down to the seaside village of Petra, including a visit to the church of Panagia Glycofilousa (church of sweet kisses), before either walking back to Mólyvos or taking the coach back to the hotel.
Easier Walk: 6½ miles with up to 725 feet of a ascent and 1,260 feet of descent
Harder Walk: 9½ miles with up to 1,420 feet of ascent and 1,970 feet of descent
Day 3: Around Olympos
Today we travel south where both walks start in the small town of Agiassos, which nestles below Lesvos's very own Mount Olympos. Descending along the old cobbled tracks, our walk takes us through a tiny village of Asomatos and into a hamlet of Karini, famous for the tree in which the artist Theophilos once lived. The walk finishes at a ruined Roman Aqueduct near Lambou Mili.
Easier Walk: 6¾ miles with up to 620 feet of ascent and 1,340 feet of descent
Harder Walk: 9 miles with up to 1,190 feet of ascent and 1,797 feet of descent
Day 4: By the Aegean
We travel east along the coast road towards the Lepetymnos range of mountains and walk along the north coast of the island with views across to the villages and minarets of Turkey. We visit the picturesque fishing port of Skala Sikaminias and have an opportunity to swim in the sea heated by hot springs.
Easier Walk: 6 miles with up to 524 feet ascent and 1,095 feet of descent
Harder Walk: 8¼ miles with up to 1,204 feet of ascent and 1,204 feet of descent
Day 5: Free day
Today no walks are organised allowing you to explore the local area on your own. Alternatively you may wish to relax by the hotel swimming pool and perhaps stroll down to visit the hot springs and beach restaurant at Eftaloú.
Day 6: Around Kalloni - three monasteries and a town
Today we travel south to the fertile plain of Kalloni. The walk visits three monasteries and is considered a classic island walk by locals. Both walks finish at the seaside port of Skala Kalloni where the walnut cake is reputed to be the best on the island!
Easier and Harder Walk: 6 miles with up to 535 feet of ascent and 623 feet of descent
Day 7: Liganas Valley
The easy walk goes from the village of Stipsi to the village of Vafios taking a path contouring above the Valley of the Mills and giving stunning views of both Petra and Mólyvos. The harder walk goes up to the head of Ligonas Valley passing the ruined water mills that once ground corn. With both walks there is an opportunity to have lunch in a traditional taverna.
Easier Walk: 5 miles with up to 616 feet of ascent
Harder Walk: 9 miles with up to 1,200 feet of ascent and descent
