Literary Peaks

From our base in the Peak District we will explore some of the great industrial areas which spawned some of our most renowned novelists and novels. Their writing will be considered in the context of the ‘social problem novel’, which examined hardships which affected the working classes. Join us as our travels take in the places associated with them and some of their novels. We will visit Knutsford, linked with Elizabeth Gaskell. We will explore the ‘Five Towns’ of the Potteries where we will encounter Arnold Bennett against the background of Anna of the Five Towns. We encounter DH Lawrence and places associated with him against the background of Sons and Lovers.
