Easier walks sometimes on rough and stony paths. Harder walks can be steeper.

Day 1: Arrival day

Views looking forwards Puerto de SollerFor those arriving on the flights to Palma airport, the onward journey to Puerto de Sóller is by coach. On the first evening your leaders will explain more about the walks and there will be time to meet with your fellow guests.

Day 2: Cap Gros lighthouse and ancient olive groves

psThese introductory walks explore the coastline to the south and west of our resort. Walks start and finish at the hotel giving the opportunity for a leisurely start and time to spend exploring Puerto de Sóller, an attractive resort town set on a sweeping bay.

Easier Walk: 6 miles with up to 800 feet of ascent and descent

Harder Walk: 8 miles with up to 1,100 feet of ascent and descent

Day 3: Deià

psToday we visit the charming village of Deià which lies about 6 miles along the coast from Puerto de Sóller. This unspoilt spot contains some fine examples of Mallorcan architecture and was once home to a number of writers and artists. Perhaps the most famous of these was Robert Graves, who is buried in the cemetery next to the little church. Born in 1895, Graves was an army captain during World War I and later made his name writing historical novels, such as I Claudius. Today the village has a small, but interesting archaeological museum, together with a number of craft shops and cafés.

Easier Walk: 4½ miles with up to 750 feet of ascent and 820 feet of descent

Harder Walk: 7 miles with up to 980 feet of ascent and 1,500 feet of descent

Day 4: L’Ofre and the Pilgrims Steps

psToday our walks explore the rugged mountains that lie directly behind Puerto de Sóller. At over 4km long, and with several peaks over 1,000 metres, the Alfabia ridge dominates the Sóller valley. The extensive views present an exciting prospect for walkers and, together with the impressive Es Barranc Gorge, form one of the most beautiful walks on the island. We walk close to the peak of Puig Major which, at 4,750 feet (1,447 metres) is the highest point on the island.

Easier Walk: 8 miles with up to 550 feet of ascent and 2,900 feet of descent

Harder Walk10 miles with up to 1,150 feet of ascent and 3,500 feet of descent

Day 5: Free day

psToday no walks are organised, allowing you to explore the local area or just relax in the hotel or at the beach.

Options for your free day include:

  • Palma
  • Cathedral
  • The Almudaina

Day 6: Summit of Vella and the Archdukes path to Valldemossa

psFrom Cami de Arxi Duc there are superb views towards Deià and Puerto de Sóller. We go through a wooded valley and pass interesting exhibits from the open air museum and on to the historic town of Valldemossa. The Archduke Luis Salvador came to Mallorca in 1867 and liked it so much that he later set up home on the island. As a great benefactor and conservationist, one of his achievements was the building of these excellent paths.

Easier Walk: 5 miles with up to 1,500 feet of ascent and 1,500 feet of descent

Harder Walk: 8½ miles with up to  2,200 feet of ascent and descent

Day 7: Cuber Dam and Lluc Monastery

psThe Cuber Dam and lake are surrounded by the highest mountains on Mallorca.  Follow the old roads from Lluc to Pollença, the main town in the northeast of the island, through a limestone area with some fascinating sculptures. We gain views of the monastery, mountains and sea, in a loop back to Lluc.

Easier Walk: 5 miles with up to 330 feet of ascent and 1,200 feet of descent

Harder Walk:10 miles with up to 1,640 feet of ascent and descent

Mountain Walking Programme

Puig de Massanella

Puig de Massanella is the second highest mountain in Mallorca with twin peaks at 1,348m and 1,352m (4,430ft). On a clear day, almost all the island is visible as are the islands of Menorca and Cabrera. We take transport to near the monastery at Lluc and follow a graded track past a mountain spring up to the summit.

El Cornadors

This walk makes a lengthy ascent up the Pilgrims Steps to the summit of Es Cornadors. Originally this was the pilgrim’s route from Sóller to the monastery at Lluc. Around the gorge in which we walk rise the steep rock walls of Cornadors with typical Mallorcan terraces and gnarled and ancient olive trees. Once the ancient cairns at the top have been reached your efforts will be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the mountains.

L’Ofre

At over 4km long, and with several peaks over 1,000 metres, the Alfabia ridge dominates the Soller valley. We walk close to the peak of Puig Major, which at 4,750 feet (1,447 metres) is the highest point on the island. This is an impressive and challenging ridge walk over rough terrain.

Teix and Sa Galera

A zig-zag forest road heads up through the trees onto the open mountains to the high mountain town of Col de Sóller. In front of us lies the sheer rock face of the Puig del Jaime. Our route ascends the summits of Teix and Sa Galera before descending by rough paths to Sóller, where we take the tram back to Puerto de Sóller. From the summit of Teix, there are great views across both sides of the island. Sa Galera is a natural mirador with a bird’s-eye view of Deià and the coast between Deià and Puerto de Sóller.

Tomir

From Binifaldo a steep path crossing some scree leads to the summit of Tomir at 3,618 feet (1,103 metres) with magnificent views. From the summit the way leads down through wild mountain scenery past a snow house to the Col del Puig de Ca. The path continues past a ruined house at Aucanella before finally turning to head back to the monastery at Lluc.

Please note that all itineraries outlined are provisional and could be subject to change. A finalised itinerary will be available at the resort and every evening your leaders will talk to you about the next day’s walks
