Holiday reference: USCYC
This holiday mainly follows cycle paths and quiet roads with some undulating sections.
Day 1: Arrival in Trier. If time permits a visit to the Roman remains and the 'Porta Nigra' or 'Balck Gate' is well worth taking the time to explore in the old town.
Day 2: Follow the Mosel through former Roman settlements and wine-growing villages as you cycle towards Trittenheim. If time permits a trip to the Trittenheimer Apotheke or Trittenheimer Altarchen vineyards is well worth a visit. Spend the night in Trittenheim or one of the nearby villages (26 miles).
Day 3: Make an early start and enjoy lunch in the charming town of Bernkastel-Kues with its half-timbered houses and ruined castle. Catch a ferry to Traben-Trarbach and cycle to Reil for your overnight stay (28 miles).
Day 4: Cycle to the romantic medieval town of Cochem. Visit the Reichsburg Castle perched above the town and take a chairlift to Pinnerberg for views all along the valley. Take the ferry to Treis-Karden for your overnight stay (32 miles).
Day 5: Marvel at villages of half-timbered houses and steep, hillside vineyards. Arrive at the city of Koblenz where the Rhine meets the Mosel River. End your day with a stroll through the old town or admire the view from Ehrenbreitstein fortress. This can be reached by chairlift between May and September but is also served by the local train network (24 miles).
Day 6: Departure day.
You will be provided with an 8-gear touring bicycle with handlebar bags and coaster brakes (also known as back pedal brake, foot brake or torpedo in some countries).
