Alan took early retirement from his career some years ago, and decided to follow up his interest in local history by becoming a City Guide in Newcastle upon Tyne. After a further intensive training course Alan qualified to become a Blue Badge Guide for North East England, and enjoys showing visitors around the area. As a member of the National Trust and English Heritage he is able to pursue his interest in historic buildings, castles and stately homes. He is also a keen gardener, and is a regular visitor to all of the magnificent gardens in Northumberland. Alan enjoys travelling both home and abroad, and is an ardent supporter of Newcastle United.

Harry Mycock

Harry will be leading this holiday on 15 September 2012

Harry is currently working at practical and Board level in areas associated with the natural landscape, environment and education. He teaches a broad range of Garden Design and Horticultural subjects in Further, Adult and Higher Education. 

He is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth; Harry manages Garden Design and Horticulture degree programmes delivered at Sparsholt College Hampshire. Sparsholt is a high profile college in the land based sector with extensive horticultural facilities including the BBC Radio 4 Gardeners Question Time Garden and Potting Shed. Sparsholt also exhibits at shows such as Chelsea and Hampton Court. 

Harry will enjoy sharing his knowledge of gardens, their design and history and he promises to keep the garden tours at a pace so that there is time to stand and stare and soak it all in.
