At last the ukulele is in fashion again! In the 1920s your social credibility was nil unless you played, or at least carried, a uke. The diminutive 'bonsai' guitar surfed to popularity along with the craze for all things Hawaiian; then came a long dark age of obscurity (apart from the special case of George Formby) before its triumphant re-emergence in recent years. Now world leaders are happy to be seen holding a uke; it is widely used in primary schools, and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain played a concert at last year's Proms.
It's cheap, portable, easy to learn, versatile, makes an attractive accessory to your evening dress and blazes cheerfully on an open fire.
No previous experience is required to come on a 'Play Ukulele' holiday, although all players will enjoy it. A willingness (rather than ability) to sing is helpful.
