This holiday follows mainly quiet country roads with some sections on cycle paths on the Czech side and mainly riverside cycle paths on the German side. The route is predominantly flat but covers uneven terrain especially on the Czech side.
Day 1: Arrival at your hotel in Prague. Dependent upon your arrival time a visit to one of the famous museums, Prague Castle or one of the magnificent bridges is all well worth exploring.
Day 2: Spend the day exploring the city of a hundred spires with its cobbled streets, Jewish quarter and collection of museums. Discover the Old Town Square and the irregular cobbled square with its famous Astronomical Clock.
Day 3: Leaving Prague, cycle along the Vltava River and country lanes to the town of Mĕlník in the heart of the Bohemian wine route and positioned at the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava rivers (31 miles).
Day 4: Cycle to Litomĕřice with its attractive historic core still surrounded in parts by Gothic fortifications. En-route stop at Terezin, the site of the Jewish ghetto and now home to the Ghetto museum (28 miles).
Day 5: Today’s route will take you to the town of Dĕčín. On the way, you will pass the city of Usti nad Labem and the majestic Střekov castle perched 100 metres above the Elbe and whose walls have inspired Wagner and Goethe (31 miles).
Day 6: Leaving Dĕčín, continue through Bohemia before crossing the border into Germany and ending the day in the spa town of Bad Schandau (13 miles).
Day 7: The last leg of the route takes you through Saxon Switzerland. Cycle along mainly cycle paths through riverside meadows to Dresden where you’ll spend your final night (28 miles).
Day 8: Departure day.
Note: It is also possible to combine the cycling on days 5 and 6 if you wish to spend an extra night in Dresden.
You will be provided with a 21-gear bicycle. You will be supplied with a basic repair kit and pannier.
On arrival at your first hotel you will receive an information pack containing your route directions and maps, tourist information and hotel vouchers.
Your luggage will be transferred from hotel to hotel on this cycling holiday.
