The most convenient ferry is from Lymington to Yarmouth. Ferries run approximately every 30mins with the crossing taking 35mins (approx £10.50 for foot passengers). The ferry terminal at Lymington is 14 miles from the M27 near Southampton. If you would like to leave your car on the mainland there is a large car park adjacent to the ferry terminal at Lymington Pier (allow £14 per week).
If you prefer to take you car to the island it is just 4 miles from the ferry terminal at Yarmouth to Freshwater Bay. A large car park is available in the grounds with ample free parking. If you are using a sat-nav, the postcode for Freshwater Bay House is PO40 9RB.
The nearest mainline station is at Brockenhurst which is served by regular trains from London Waterloo, and also direct trains from Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle. From Brockenhurst there is a regular branch line service (approx every 30mins) to Lymington Pier, timed to connect with the ferries. This station is immediately adjacent to the ferry terminal. Once you have arrived on the Isle of Wight the 4 mile transfer from Yarmouth to Freshwater Bay can be made by taxi – (allow £8.50 per journey - less if shared), or by local bus. We will send you a taxi booking form prior to your holiday.
The nearest airport is at Southampton, however the Isle of Wight is also easily reached from the major airports at London Heathrow or London Gatwick. See www.nationalrail.co.uk for details on reaching the Isle of Wight from these airports by train.
Southampton Airport has its own station and is about 55mins by train to Lymington Pier, with one change at Brockenhurst.
If you are arriving at London Heathrow the journey to Lymington Pier takes around 2hrs 30mins. First take the Railair bus to Woking station, then a mainline trains to Brockenhurst, where you should connect for the branch line to Lymington Pier.
From Gatwick Airport the journey to Lymington Pier also takes around 2hrs 30mins. Take a train direct from the airport to Clapham Junction and change here for the mainline train to Brockenhurst. Finally a short journey down the branch line will take you to Lymington Pier.
Coaches operate to Lymington town centre. From here take a taxi to the ferry terminal, cross to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, followed by another taxi to Freshwater Bay House.
