Day 1: Arrival day.

Your room will be available from 2.30pm onwards. Please join us for tea between 4pm and 5pm to meet the leader and your fellow guests.

Before dinner there will be a brief introduction to the holiday programme.

The rest of the day is free for you to explore indepedently or relax at the Country House

8pm                        Bedroom Farce

Bedroom Farce is one of the classic works by Alan Ayckbourn, the most performed playwright in the world after Shakespeare. First produced in 1975, it tells of four couples, three bedrooms and one eventful night. The production is directed by Associate Director Stefan Escreet.

8pm                       A Doll's House

A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen,in an adaptation by Bryony Lavery. Nora, one of the Norwegian master playwright’s great creations, tries to break free from the confines of her marriage. The play caused a storm in 1879 and still packs a passionate punch 130 years later. It will be directed by Mary Papadima, a former Trainee Director at Theatre by the Lake.

8pm                   Dry Rot

Dry Rot by John Chapman is one of the great series of 1950s Whitehall farces; this one features kidnapping, conmen and chaos in a country hotel (with a racehorse hidden in the cellar). Expect a gang of spivs, plenty of laughs and some dropped trousers. Ian Forrest directs.

8pm                    Colder Than Here

Colder Than Here by Laura Wade, is the regional première of a life-affirming play about a mother trying to plan her own funeral in the face of resistance from her family. Full of warmth and gentle humour and first staged at London’s Soho Theatre in 2006, the Guardian described it as “a play that, far from flinching in the face of death, explores how we might make peace with it”. It will be directed by guest director Abigail Anderson.

8pm                  Great Expectations 

Great Expectations has been adapted by Neil Bartlett from one of the best-loved novels by Charles Dickens, the bicentenary of whose birth will be celebrated in 2012. The meeting of young Pip and the criminal Magwitch in the graveyard is the perfect prelude to a dramatic and mysterious story rich in classic Dickens characters.
