Day 1: To Kalispell - Fly to Kalispell via Denver and transfer to the hotel in Kalispell, in Glacier National Park, for 1 night.
Day 2: To Lake McDonald - This morning a short drives leads to the shores of beautiful Lake McDonald, and the Lake McDonald Lodge for 2 nights. This afternoon get straight into some invigorating walks, with choices of the Avalanche Trail to an alpine cirque or shorter walk to the roaring McDonald Falls.
Day 3: Lake McDonald - Today there is a choice of excellent full or part day walks on the Highline Trail to Haystack Butte, or the Garden Wall walk with chances to view great wildlife and mountain meadows.
Day 4: To Many Glacier Valley - Morning drive on the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road to the Many Glacier Valley, an area of superb alpine scenery, glaciers, waterfalls and glacial lakes. Stay at the historic Many Glacier Lodge for 3 nights. This afternoon’s walks include St Mary & Virginia Falls, Siyeh Pass with views of the peaks of the St Mary Valley, or Piegan Pass, leading to the lodge.
Day 5: Many Glacier & Iceberg Lake - More stunning walks in this area, with an array of choices including the Iceberg Lake Trail through grizzly bear habitat, Ptarmigan Falls with views over to Mount Wilbur, and the walk up to the continental divide to Swiftcurrent Pass.
Day 6: The Grinnell Complex - An extensive complex of interconnected trails originates near the Many Glacier Hotel and provides a variety of pleasant day hikes in the lower Cataract Creek Valley. Walks today lead to the Grinnell Glacier Trail or Lake Josephine to Grinnell Lake.
Day 7: To Yellowstone National Park - Drive south to Yellowstone, stopping at Great Falls to visit the superb Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Centre, which chronicles the journey of the first known white explorers of the area in 1805, and their encounters with, and dependence on, Native Americans. Stay for 4 nights by the national park entrance.
Day 8: Yellowstone & Old Faithful - The first full day in Yellowstone is spent in the Firehole Valley area of the park, which contains the largest concentration of geysers in the world. In the morning visit Fountain Pot Flats and Midway Geyser Basin and in the afternoon walk via Observation Point to Old Faithful.
Day 9: Yellowstone Grand Canyon - A leisurely day to explore one of Yellowstone’s premier wonders, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Here Yellowstone’s complex geological history is expressed in vivid colours and dramatic shapes. Walk along the North and South Rim Trails, taking in the Upper and Lower Falls of Yellowstone.
Day 10: Yellowstone & Mount Washburn - Today climb the highest peak in the park, Mount Washburn. There’s a choice of walks to the summit with tremendous views looking down across the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Lake, the Teton Range, Hayden Valley and maybe steam rising above the geyser basins of the Firehole River.
Day 11: To Jackson & Grand Teton - A leisurely morning drive leads to Grand Teton National Park, stopping to enjoy pleasant walks to Heron Pond and Swan Lake before continuing the journey to Jackson for a 4 night stay.
Day 12: Grand Teton National Park & Jenny Lake - Today’s walks lead from Jenny Lake, one of the most popular areas of Grand Teton National Park. The lake itself lies in one of North America’s most magnificent settings and trails from this point lead almost immediately into areas of spectacular scenic beauty. Those wishing to participate in a full day walk can take on the spectacular Cascade Canyon Trail whilst others take shorter walks to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point.
Day 13: Grand Teton National Park - Another great day of walking in mountain wilderness, to Bradley and Taggart Lakes, under the grandest peaks of the Teton Range, or into the misleadingly-named Death Canyon, where deer are common and wildflowers are abundant.
Day 14: Grand Teton National Park - Take the trail into Paintbrush Canyon, for views of the Teton Range and a string of lakes. Alternatively, unwind in Jackson where there is much to see and do including museums and art galleries. For the adventurous there is white water rafting or horse riding tours into the wild landscapes.
Day 15: To London - Transfer to the airport and fly to London via Denver.
Day 16: London - Morning arrival.
