This holiday follows secondary roads which are mostly quiet but with some busier sections, and cycle paths through undulating countryside.
Day 1: Arrival in the city of Vicenza, famous for its Renaissance architecture by Palladio.
Day 2: Cycle through the Veneto countryside to the town of Marostica with its castle and famous chessboard in the town square. Continue to Bassano del Grappa renowned for its ‘grappa’ or firewater and covered Palladian bridge (25 miles).
Day 3: Cycle through rolling countryside to the beautiful Prosecco vineyards. Stop at Villa Barbaro- a splendid Palladian villa- before continuing to Treviso, known as ‘little Venice’ (39 miles).
Day 4: Follow the old waterway from Treviso to Mestre where you will spend the night and is a short bus or train ride from Venice (24 miles).
Day 5: Take a ferry to the island of the Lido, cycle along the seashore and take another ferry to the island of Pellestrina. Travel by motorboat to Chioggia-a miniature Venice filled with cobblestone streets, canals and a well-known fish market (21 miles).
Day 6: Follow the Bacchiglione and Brenta rivers, heading for the ancient city of Padova. Stop en route at the imposing Villa Pisani with its stunning frescoes, grand gardens and maze (38 miles).
Day 7: The Bacchiglione River flows away from the city and we reach Costozza, a small town at the foot of the Berici hills. Return to Vicenza, passing Villa Rotonda, the most famous of the Palladian villas; and Villa Valmarana with its wonderful frescoes (30 miles).
Day 8: Departure day.
You will be provided with a 7-gear unisex bicycle or a 21-gear bicycle. You will also be supplied with a handlebar bag, water bottle, pannier and repair kit.
