This holiday follows quiet rural roads over flat terrain with some sections of rough ground. A follow-up van is available if there are any sections you would prefer not to cycle.
Day 1: Individual arrival in Vienna.
Day 2: Your tour guide will welcome you at 8:45am in the hotel. Cycle through Vienna’s famous Prater Park – a former imperial hunting ground – to Bruck an der Leitha, with its stunning baroque main square (32 miles).
Day 3: Follow the shore of Lake Fertö to picturesque Rust, famous for its storks. Cross into Hungary and head to Sopron, the only Hungarian town with an almost intact medieval centre (39 miles).
Day 4: With panoramic views of Lake Fertö, cycle towards Fertöd and its splendid baroque palace – ‘The Hungarian Versailles’. End your day in a relaxing thermal spa at Bük/Röjtökm (35 miles).
Day 5: Cycle through quiet villages to the preserved settlement of Magyarpolány. Climb Calvary Hill to the chapel and take in the stunning views. In the evening savour a traditional Hungarian meal before retiring to your local guesthouse (41 miles).
Day 6: Pass through local villages and head towards the spa resort of Hévíz. Continue to Keszthely on the western shore of Lake Balaton for your overnight stay (39 miles).
Day 7: Cycle along the western and southern shore of Lake Balaton and arrive in the town of Balatonföldvar. Transfer by coach to Budapest – ‘The Pearl of the Danube’- and enjoy an after-dinner coach tour of the illuminated city (39 miles).
Day 8: Departure day.
You will be provided with a 21-gear touring bicycle with a pannier. On this holiday, the tour guide offers a bike-repair service.
