Self-guided Cycling Holiday in Bordeaux

This holiday follows mainly flat terrain along quiet roads and scenic cycle paths. There are sections of hilly terrain on day 2.

Vineyards of Bordeaux Itinerary DDay 1: Transfer by taxi to your accommodation at Capian or Rions in the Entre-deux-mers wine-growing region. Here you will receive your guidebook before taking dinner either within your accommodation or in one of the local restaurants.

Day 2: Cycle to the medieval merchant town of Sant-Macaire through undulating vineyard terrain taking in the spectacular scenic views of the Garonne River. Explore the castle at Cadillac, home-town of the writer François Muriac. (22 miles)

Vineyards of Bordeaux Itinerary BDay 3: Follow quiet roads through the vineyards of Sauternes, passing the renowned Château Yquem. Enter the flatlands of the Landes de Gascogne Regional National Park and spend the night in the village of Origne. (33 miles)

Day 4: Enjoy the changing landscape as you cycle through the park’s dense forest. Stop for lunch at the lakes of Hosten and continue to the village of Le Barp for your overnight stop. (20 miles)

Vineyards of Bordeaux Itinerary CDay 5: Travel through Le Teich ornithological park leading to the Bay of Arcachon. Join the coastal path, stopping to climb Europe’s highest sand-dune before continuing to Arcachon for a two-night stay. (28 or 34 miles)

Day 6: Take the ferry across the Bay of Arcachon to Cap Ferret or explore the cycle paths to the port of Biganos, the ornithological park and Domaine de Certe in Audenge.

Day 7: Departure day or extend your stay in Arcachon. 

Bicycles

You will be provided with a 21-gear bicycle with a pannier, bottle holder and lock. You will be supplied with a repair kit. We are also able to provide trailers for children under 10 years and tag-a-longs for children under 6 years old.

Route directions and maps

On arrival at your first hotel you will receive an information pack containing your route directions and maps, tourist information and hotel vouchers.

Luggage transfers

Your luggage will be transferred from hotel to hotel on this cycling holiday.
