Arriving by car

Depending on where you are staying, it may be possible to leave your car at the guesthouse/hotel at the start or the end of the trail. Please enquire. Directions to your guesthouse are included in your guest information leaflet.

Returning to your car

If your are leaving your car in St Bees, you should take a taxi, then a train from Robin Hood’s Bay. The nearest train stations are Whitby or Scarborough. There are limited train services departing from Whitby, so it is recommended that you travel by taxi to Scarborough station, where there is a more frequent service. If you are leaving your car in Kirkby Stephen, you can take a Coast to Coast Packhorse minibus back from Robin Hood’s Bay. Call us to reserve a seat for you on the minibus.

Arriving by train

Journeys to St Bees involve a change at Lancaster from where there are a limited number of trains to St Bees each day. For a more frequent service, take a train from Carlisle to Whitehaven, then a taxi to St Bees.

Kirkby Stephen is on a main railway line form Leeds to Carlisle. On arrival at Kirkby Stephen train station you need to take a taxi to your accommodation.

Returning by train

The Complete and East trails finish in Robin Hood’s Bay where you can take a taxi or a bus to either Whitby or Scarborough train stations. There are limited train services departing from Whitby and your journey could involve a number of changes. From Scarborough station there is a more frequent service, changing at York.

The West trail finishes in Keld, take a taxi to Kirkby Stephen, your nearest train station. Taxi companies are recommended in your personal information leaflet.

By air

There are a number of flights from around the UK and overseas, to Manchester.

Manchester International Airport has its own station, with regular trains to the centre of Manchester and Preston, where you can change for a variety of regional destinations - see www.manchesterairport.co.uk.
