Enhance your enjoyment of walking by learning the skills of navigation using map and compass. Starting from absolute basics, you'll learn new skills in theoretical evening sessions which you can then put into practice on walks during the day. This holiday is equally suitable for the family rambler, aspirant group leader or students of the WGL or ML schemes. |

Learn to Navigate using GPS & Digital Mapping On this holiday, you will brush up your use of the traditional navigation tools of map and compass at a basic level and then combine these skills with the power of GPS and digital mapping technology, helping you become a more confident navigator and enabling you to get more enjoyment from your days in the great outdoors. All these skills combined will give you the confidence to plan walks at home and abroad and as you gain in experience find that you can increase your horizons.
Subjects covered will include: Brush up your Map & Compass skills, How the GPS system works, Marking your position and how to create Waypoints & Routes, How to retrace your steps using Tracks, Transfer your routes to a GPS and route planning using digital maps, Which GPS evening presentation. All these skills will be covered in a non-technical way with as much time as possible being devoted to putting new skills into practice outdoors. Don't worry if you don't own a GPS or Compass as free loan of a GPS and all specialist equipment is included. The four night holiday includes a full day’s walk so you can consolidate your new skills.
