Exploring Britain's Coastline
29 July 05

A new programme started last Friday on BBC 2 which explores the coastlines of Britain. There are two new episodes each week (Friday and Sunday at 9pm) that examine the history and possible walks along different stretches of Britain's coastline.

The first week discovered the 'The Frontline' of the South coast and the 'Wild West' of South West England. If you missed these episodes, don't worry, you can catch up on the programme's BBC's website . This Friday's episode covers the many delights of the Welsh coastline.

Coastal walking has always featured strongly in our walking programmes. For example you could explore the South West coast path, Britains longest trail, as a guided or self guided holiday, or from our Country House accommodation at Haytor , St Ives and Selworthy . In Wales the dramatic Pembrokeshire coast path can also be enjoyed as a guided or self-guided holiday. For a first hand experience of a self guided Pembrokshire Coast path holiday see George Wilkinson's review.

HF Holidays buys satellite phone
07 June 05

A trend towards mobile phones has left Brecon Mountain Rescue find it increasingly difficult to find a public telephone boxes when they find themselves in a "dead spot" with no mobile signal. Therefore as part of our continued support for this vital organisation HF Holidays Pathways fund has provided a grant to purchase a satellite phone, which has been installed in their new vehicle. This will help the team to get medical and rescue assistance to those remote areas in the Brecon Beacons.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team is an emergency service staffed entirely by volunteers and funded by donation. They operate principally in mid Wales, working from the Brecon Beacons National Park north to Plynlimon, from the Welsh borderland westward, through mid Wales, to the Ceredigion coast. Their work is not restricted to mountain and wilderness search and rescue for climbers and hill walkers: their skills are also deployed by the police to search for vulnerable or missing persons in the community where they can employ their specialist medical and rescue techniques.

The Brecon Mountain Rescue team are so pleased with this new equipment; they feel "it will be a real godsend".
