A Furness couple recently received permission to turn their Lake District-based Victorian-styled farm into a year-round tourist attraction.
The couple, Alex and Charlotte Sharphouse, have long dreamt of being able to open up Old Hall Farm at Bouth, near Ulverston, for the public to enjoy. The fascinating slice of Victorian history was given permission to open to the public by the Lake District National Park Authority, who agreed to the move as long as the farm doesn’t become too popular.
The farm has been run using a Victorian style of farming for a number of years now, appearing on the BBC2 TV series Victorian Farm, and visitors would be able to experience the steam-powered machinery and traditional techniques first hand.
No date for the official opening has been set yet, but it’s expected to happen sometime in early 2013. The attraction will make for an ideal day out for anyone enjoying one of our activity holidays or freedom breaks in the area, especially for those staying at Coniston Water.
