Papplewick Pumping Station

Papplewick pumping stationDid you see Papplewick Pumping Station on Countryfile?

Viewers of Sunday’s edition of Countryfile will have seen John Craven explore Papplewick Pumping Station in Nottinghamshire. Built in 1884 to supply fresh water to the city of Nottingham it is a great example of Victorian engineering and grand civic pride.

The episode is available to view on BBC iPlayer.

You can visit Papplewick yourself on our Industrial Heritage Tour to see the original beam engines and admire the flamboyant architecture.

This tour is based at our new Country Houses – the Peveril of the Peak at Dovedale.

Other visits on this tour include the National Trust’s Quarry Bank Mill, the National Brewery Centre at Burton-on-Trent, the Potteries, and Cromford Mills – now a World Heritage Site.
