Yorkshire already lining up Tour de France legacy

The town of Otley in West Yorkshire is already looking to secure a cycling legacy for the area, with the local council using the upcoming Tour de France Grand Départ to promote a lasting strategy.

The news comes at the same time as another legacy announcement by Sustrans, British Cycling and CTC, who've stated that they'll also be working to ensure that the historic sporting event will translate into a raised profile for cycling in the region, encouraging more to take up the activity and go on cycling holidays.

The strategy by Otley town council sets out plans to turn the town into a 'Cycling Town', improving facilities and infrastructure for cyclists and encouraging the activity as both a sustainable mode of transport and a healthy activity.

It's hoped that the Grand Départ will have a similar effect on other towns in Yorkshire, turning the region into a haven for cycling.
