Photography
Some of the most outstandingly scenic locations around Great Britain invite the photographer
to come and capture some of their qualities.
Expert guides and tutors will take you by mini coach each day to carefully
planned sites, according to the weather, time of day and lighting conditions -
to get you half way to decent photos before you've even stepped off the bus!
The greatest rewards come with some effort on foot of course and so you'll
need to be fit enough to walk up to five miles in total over a full day (but we
keep the walking to a minimum in Cornwall, the South Downs
and Northumberland). Once there our leaders will give advice on technicalities,
and
how to make best use of the light.
Digital users - including those new to it or just thinking of jumping
on board this unstoppable train - have their own section of
breaks devoted to the art and can even try before they buy
on our Discovering Digital photography
holiday. You can find out what to do with your digital pictures
once you've taken them on our Digital Darkroom
breaks. Or try our popular Advanced Digital Photography Workshop for advanced practitioners.
Our base will be one of our own superb Country Houses with great food
and comfortable lecture rooms.
Many find the get away from it all experience, in lovely surroundings with
good healthy food, one of fun, reward and achievement in equal measure.
Our prices hide nothing and represent remarkable value for money - you don't
need to spend anything other than when you might be out and about independently.

| Around
Britain with a Camera |
 |
Rediscover the beautiful scenery of the British Isles through landscape photography.
With an inspirational mix of tours and country walking (up to 5 miles per
day), we take you to some truly outstanding scenic locations to take pictures.
We show how to achieve the best photographic results for transparencies, prints
and digital with techniques that include lighting, composition and depth of field.
In the evenings the full-days out are complemented by lectures, discussions and
workshops.
Our tour of Britain through the seasons has been carefully selected to offer
drama; from the mountains, mists and glinting sea lochs of the Highlands, or the
pounding sea spray of the Cornish Coast, to the pastoral; the unique limestone
meadows of the Yorkshire Dales, where the light constantly shifts, or the Isle
of Wight, its chocolate box villages and manor houses a delight to frame.

| Photographs in a Frosted Landscape |
 |
Winter is an exciting and challenging time for the landscape photographer. From the cold crisp morning to the milder showery airstreams that promise rainbows, we show how to work with weather and achieve stunning results. The English North Country is especially suited to low winter light and with the prospect of snow and Jack Frost, the hills and dales could be transformed.

| Photographing Autumn Tints |
 |
The landscapes of the Western Highlands of Scotland
and the Cotswolds prompt photographers of all abilities
to reach for their camera as a means to capture a
special view, or moment when the light illustrates some
unique aspect of it. With summer just departed, the
palette of colours available to us is endless. Glens,
mountains and rolling wooded hills offering up the deep
reds and golden yellows of their many native deciduous
trees provide exciting opportunities. With care, and
expert tuition, we will capture the essence of the season
through our daily outings to the most scenic spots.

| Develop a Photographic Eye |

You know that great photography is something to do with
composition, but is the seeing "eye" something you are

learned, and step-by-step we'll show you how to achieve
success and turn the abstract term "composition" into
practical ways of improving your pictures. We include a

| Digital Black & White |
 |
Learn how to create high-impact black and white photographs using digital camera and image editing software. What was previously the realm of 'wet darkroom' serious photographers, is now possible using computer software. With a few short hints, tips and techniques everyone can produce high-impact monochrome images that can be hung on walls with pride. We go out for half a day taking shots, learning how to 'see' image in black and white and how to master exposure. Later we return to the computer to turn those colour images into black and white shots with maximum tonal range and strong contrast, using Adobe Photoshop.
