Prague
The fairy-tale city of Prague is without doubt one of Europe's most beautiful capitals. Known as the city of a hundred spires, its buildings tell the story of six hundred years of architecture undamaged by natural disaster or war.
This guided sightseeing and walking holiday explores the medieval centre of the city, which is a web of cobbled alleyways and courtyards guarded by Prague Castle, the largest ancient castle in the world. Prague's glory, its architecture and wealth, is not hidden away in museums, but is displayed throughout the city waiting to be discovered with one of our HF Holidays' leaders.
Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings line the streets and squares, the most famous of which is Wenceslas Square, scene to some of the most dramatic events in Czech history.

Prague is a city of distinct quarters, and each one has a character worth exploring. Wenceslas Square is at the heart of the New Town. It’s not a square as such but more an elegant boulevard, nearly half a mile long, lined with opulent 19th and early 20th-century buildings. At the head of the square the statue of King Wenceslas stands guard in front of the National Museum. The Old Town Square dominated by the wonderfully gothic Tyn Church is another fascinating place to wander. From here we can cross the Charles Bridge over the Vltava River to Kampa Island and the Little Quarter, a quiet district of churches, parks and delightful hidden squares. Another gothic delight is the cathedral of St Vitus, within the walls of the mighty castle. Here too is the Royal Palace of the old Bohemian kingdom, and over 1,000 years of architecture plied into a small area. It’s worth escaping from the centre of Prague for half a day, perhaps to stunning Karlstejn castle with its 60m high great tower. Another way to escape the bustle of the centre is by boat on the Vltava River, a brilliant way to see this ‘Golden City of a hundred spires’. With outstanding museums and galleries and beautiful parkland too. Prague is a city worth taking time to discover.
