 |
Day 1: arrive at Santiago de Compostela (this day may also be taken at the end of your holiday, request at time of booking, depending on flight times).
Day 2: spend the morning exploring this wonderful city before transferring to your hotel in Ponferrada.
Day 3: transfer to Camponaraya then walk through vineyards and the Arroyo Magaz valley to the lovely town of Villafranca del Bierzo. (9 miles, 300ft of ascent)
Day 4: this morning you walk from Ambasmestas with your goal the hilltop town of O Cebreiro. The views when you arrive are worth the effort. (8½ miles, 2,100ft of ascent)
Day 5: the rugged countryside to Biduedo offers enjoyable views and you then transfer to Sarria. (10 miles, 150ft of ascent)
Day 6: starting from the church at Barbadelo you walk past chestnut and oak woods today, taking a clear path to the village of Portomarin, overlooking the Mino River. (11½ miles, 600ft of ascent)
Day 7: from the village of Gonzar continue through the undulating countryside of the Sierra de Ligonde until you reach Palas de Rei. (10 miles, 500ft of ascent)
Day 8: medieval bridges and river valleys mark your route today as you walk to Melide on the way to Arzua. (10 miles, 350ft of ascent)
Day 9: hidden amidst Eucalyptus trees you will go past a series of hamlets on your way to the hotel in Rúa (11½ miles, 100ft of ascent).
Day 10: the triumphant finale to your trail, your first glimpse of the city is from the summit of Monte del Gozo. You then descend and enter Santiago de Compostela through the Puerta del Camino (12½ miles, 250ft of ascent).
Day 11: depart after breakfast.

The route is well waymarked along rural roads and footpaths. On some days transfers are provided to allow you to enjoy the best of the route. It is also possible to walk longer distances each day if you prefer. |
