Described as one of the ‘World’s Ten Best Walks’, Turkey’s first long distance footpath allows us to sample the country’s beguiling rural charm. Our trail meanders its way along the Mediterranean’s most dramatic coastline, providing an intoxicating blend of scenery, history and local culture.

Itinerary

51 miles. 8-13 miles and up to 1,800ft of ascent in a day.

Day 1: arrival day.
Day 2: from Ovacik, the starting point of the Lycian Way, Baba Dag (Father Mountain) provides a stunning backdrop to our route, as we walk beneath this towering mountain to experience the vivid seascapes that expand before us.
Day 3: we follow a path along the mountainside to the famous beach of Butterfly Valley. Surrounded by magnificent cliffs several hundred metres high, this beautiful location is perfect for a relaxing afternoon.
Day 4: today’s walk from Kabak is through olive groves and pine trees, passing Karakartal (Black Eagle spring), on our way to visit the fascinating ruins of the ancient city of Sidyma.
Day 5: free day. Watch the world go by at one of the waterfront cafes at Kalkan, or visit the ancient city of Xanthos, Lycia’s most visited site.
Day 6: from Bel and the hills, we descend towards the sea, taking a short path to a small deserted beach before rounding the headland towards Pydnai.
Day 7: leaving the ancient city of Patara, we see a saddle back tomb and various temple tombs before following a Roman road uphill through peaceful pine forests. Our final leg of the journey follows the line of the aqueduct, enjoying stunning sea views all the way to Akbel.
Day 8: departure day.
