45 miles. 4 -7 miles per day, and an average daily ascent of 1,300ft. The challenging, but immensely rewarding, night-time ascent of Stromoli is 3,000ft on rough and loose terrain. |
Day 1: arrival day in Catania.
Day
2: transfer to Stromboli and walk to the breathtaking viewpoint over the Sciara del Fuoco volcanic chute.
Day
3: in the evening make a steep but memorable part ascent of Stromboli to hopefully witness the glowing pyrotechnical display (a complete ascent of Stromboli, accompanied by a qualified vulcanological guide, may also be possible depending on the weather and volcanic activity).
Day
4: take the hydrofoil to the capital of the islands, Lipari, and enjoy a walk along the dramatic cliffs to Calogero Spa.
Day
5: ascend Mt Fossa delle Felci, the highest peak of the Aeolian Islands, on the green island of Salina.
Day
6: travel to the isle of Vulcano and walk to its steaming crater rim.
Day
7: return to the mainland with time to explore Taormina.

8: departure day.
